Recent Milestones:
“Creation” – a 12-x-14-foot floor mosaic – was installed in the lobby of the Mary Ellen Orr Auditorium in the Paul Heath Center, 2005. This unique piece of artwork was created especially for the College; it is the first floor mosaic in the history of the State of Illinois’ Art-in-Architecture program.
A geothermal heating and cooling system was installed in the Student Activity Center during its construction in 2006. The system allowed the College to dramatically reduce its heating and air conditioning costs for the center from the very beginning. The overall result is lower energy usage, lower costs and cleaner air.
The College’s Strategic Plan was revised and adopted by the Board of Trustees in FY 06 and an Enrollment Management Plan, to guide the College’s recruitment and retention efforts through the coming years, was adopted by the Board in FY 07.
Two new degrees, the Associate in Fine Arts and the Associate in Applied Science in Graphic Design, were added in fall 2007; the Computer-Aided Design program moved to an all-evening program to better serve students; and the Electrical Technology curriculum was updated, with two new labs created.
The College was awarded a five-year CampusEAI Oracle Portal Grant for more than $1.1 million in 2007; this will enable John Wood to allow for a single sign-on for students, faculty, and staff.
The Quincy campus became a wireless environment in 2007-08; this allows anyone with a wireless laptop connection to log onto the College’s network and resources from anywhere on campus.
The College hosted two evaluator-consultants from the Higher Learning Commission for a focused visit on assessment of student learning in 2007. The visit was a successful one, and the College’s accredited status has been continued, with the next comprehensive visit scheduled for 2012-2013.
The College’s thirty-second annual commencement ceremony was held on its own campus, May 2007.
