Pittsfield Education Center
This center offers baccalaureate transfer as well as career/technical programs, with classes available both day and evening. Through a combination of traditional, structured courses and individualized open learning coursework, a student can take at the Pittsfield center all coursework necessary to complete an associate degree. The center also offers such student services as counseling and testing; the opportunity to participate in all JWCC student activities; and additional educational offerings, including free adult education/GED classes and a variety of personal-interest classes.
The number and variety of courses available at the Pittsfield center have increased significantly in recent years, due in part to the establishment of the Interactive TV System (ITV). Similar to interactive two-way television, the ITV allows students sitting in a classroom at the Pittsfield center to "attend" classes originating from the campus in Quincy. The center's connectivity to the Quincy campus increased with the installation of Internet. The center can access library resources through the state-of-the-art public access catalog, as well as other electronic resources to which the library subscribes, through the College's Web page. Students, faculty and staff at the Pittsfield center can also access electronic resources, including periodical full text databases, online reference materials, and a variety of online newspapers.
