Quincy and Adams County

Quincy, the largest community in west-central Illinois, has a population of 40,000 and overlooks the Mississippi River from the western-most point of the state. The county seat of Adams County, Quincy, www.quincychamber.org is a modern and progressive city in the heart of a large and fertile agricultural area. The area also offers a rich heritage: Quincy served as the site of the sixth Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Quincy has the largest variety of architecturally significant historic homes and buildings in the state outside of Chicago, and the Dr. Richard Eells House was a stop on the Underground Railroad. Also, Quincy was the site of the country’s first arts council.

Today, Quincy offers more than 1,000 acres of city parks, and the city’s rich cultural offerings include theatre, symphony orchestra and chorus, and museums. Quincy also boasts a large, modern Civic Center, a raceway, a summer collegiate baseball team, and four golf courses, for the enjoyment of residents and visitors alike - www.seequincy.com.

As the largest city within a 100-mile radius, Quincy serves a market area of 600,000 and is a center for the region’s health care, entertainment, employment, and shopping. The unemployment rate is consistently the lowest or second-lowest in the state. River, rail, highways and commercial air service provide a complete transportation network and assist the community in its economic development efforts - Great River Economic Development Foundation.
