Emergency Medical Technician
Certificate

17 Semester Hours

The EMT-Basic certificate program is a two-semester program that focuses on basic life support in the field and transportation of ill and injured patients. The curriculum is based on the Department of Transportation National Standard Curriculum and prepares the graduate to take the EMT-B certification exam. Graduates may work as volunteers or paid EMTs for ambulance services, hospitals, fire, police or rescue squad departments. The EMT-Basic certificate is a prerequisite for students who plan to pursue the EMT-Paramedic AAS degree.

The applicant must meet the following criteria:

  1. Admission to John Wood Community College
  2. Eighteen years of age
  3. A high school diploma or GED diploma

NOTE: Only students who do not need additional coursework and who take the number of credits or courses as listed each semester can complete the program in the time given. Others will take longer to complete.
