Hours: Part-time (10–25 hours/week), flexible scheduling

Compensation: Unpaid; college credit available if applicable

Position Overview

The Production Assistant/Events Intern will gain hands-on experience in the daily operations of a regional opera company through providing support during MROC’s rehearsals and performances for its Summer Premiere – Verdi’s Rigoletto. This role offers an intern an opportunity to gain a comprehensive view of arts management in a hands-on environment; participate in all aspects of shaping a production; and develop skills in event planning and coordination, technical theater, artist relations, fundraising, donor recruitment and relations, and community outreach. Interns will be encouraged to contribute creatively, take initiative, and develop a deeper understanding of the business of the performing arts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Event Coordination

o Support the planning and execution of performances and special events.

o Coordinate logistics such as venue setup and volunteer management.

o Assist with event setup and teardown, including hospitality for patrons and artists

o Participate in post-event review meetings to evaluate completed programs and events.

 

  • Technical Theater Support (for interested candidates)

o Support the production team with rehearsal setup, props, and backstage logistics

o Assist with load-in/load-out, set dressing, or light stage management tasks

o Observe or assist with basic lighting, sound, or costume work (based on skill and interest)

o Learn about the production process and how tech teams collaborate with artists and directors.

 

  • Administrative Support

o Manage databases, including donor and ticketing information.

o Assist with general office tasks and correspondence.

 

  • Community Engagement

o Participate in outreach initiatives to promote opera in the community.

o Engage with patrons and provide information about upcoming events.

 

Internship Eligibility and Qualifications

Internships are available to undergraduate students, recent graduates, and early-career professionals (within the first two years), minimum age 18, with a GPA of at least 2.75. Applicants should possess a passion for live performance and an enthusiasm for learning as well as a professional, welcoming demeanor and a collaborative spirit. An ability to multitask and manage shifting priorities as well as strong written and verbal communication skills are essential to this role.
