Business and Industry Training Consultant 

Workforce Development Center, John Wood Community College

 

Position Overview: 

John Wood Community College seeks a dynamic and results-driven Business and Industry Training Consultant to serve as the primary liaison between the College and local businesses and organizations within the service district. The consultant will work closely with business and industry leaders to assess workforce training needs, develop customized training solutions, and identify resources to support employee development. This position will also work closely with work-based learning programs such as the Great River Fame chapter and other apprenticeship model programs. It will play a key role in fostering relationships with local industry partners, ensuring the college remains a leader in workforce training and development.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary contact between John Wood Community College and businesses/organizations seeking employee training solutions.

 

  • Collaborate with local businesses and industries to assess training needs and develop customized training programs.

 

  • Work with subject matter experts (SMEs) to create specialized curriculum tailored to specific industry requirements.

 

  • Develop cost models to ensure training programs are competitively priced and financially viable.

 

  • Identify and secure funding opportunities, including grants, to assist local businesses with covering the cost of training.

 

  • Coordinate and facilitate training sessions, ensuring they meet the standards and expectations of the industry.

 

  • Track and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs, adjusting as needed based on feedback.

 

  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with key stakeholders in the community and within the business sector.

 

  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging needs to ensure the college’s training offerings remain relevant and cutting-edge.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, education, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Proven experience in workforce development, business consulting, or a related role.
  • Strong understanding of industry-specific training needs and the ability to translate them into effective training solutions.
  • Experience in developing cost models, securing grants, and managing budgets.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to innovate and drive continuous improvement in training programs.

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of grant writing and funding opportunities.
  • Experience working within higher education or workforce development.
  • Familiarity with the local business landscape and industry trends within the John Wood service district.

 

Work Environment:

This position will be housed at the Workforce Development Center, with frequent interaction and collaboration with local businesses and industry leaders. Occasional travel within the district may be required to meet with business partners and assess training sites.
