Job Description
This is a part-time, Non-Credit Instructor position in the Adult Education program at John Wood Community College. The ESL (English as a Second Language) class will be taught two evenings a week, 5:00 p.m. – 6:45 p.m. Mondays & Thursdays, at Dot Foods in Mt. Sterling, IL.
John Wood Community College is seeking a dedicated and experienced Non-Credit Instructor for the English as a Second Language (ESL) program. The instructor will deliver engaging and effective instruction to adult learners from diverse backgrounds, focusing on improving English language proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and deliver interactive ESL lessons tailored to various skill levels.
- Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment.
- Assess student progress through formative and summative assessments.
- Provide feedback and guidance to help students achieve language learning goals.
- Incorporate technology and innovative teaching strategies to enhance instruction.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance and student performance.
- Collaborate with the Adult Education department to align curriculum with program goals.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in TESOL, Education, Linguistics, or a related field.
- Prior experience teaching ESL to adult learners, preferably in a community college or adult education setting.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work with diverse populations.
- Familiarity with adult learning principles and language acquisition strategies.
- TESOL or TEFL certification preferred.
Working Conditions:
- Work in well-lit, ventilated office space.
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, lift, and move intermittently throughout the workday.
- Subject to frequent interruptions and interaction with students, faculty, staff, and the public.
SALARY:
- This is a non-exempt position with an estimated hourly pay rate of $26.00 – $30.00.
