Job Description

Firefighter Minimum Requirements:

• At least 20 years of age and have not reached the age of 35 by Monday, April 28, 2025, unless exempt by state statute. Note – must be 21 years of age at date of hire
• U.S. Citizen
• High school diploma or equivalent
• No felony convictions
• Valid driver’s license
• Must attend and successfully complete the physical assessment fire zone test hosted by the Jacksonville FD at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 26th. Testing will take place at the Jacksonville Fire Department, 200 West Douglas Ave. Jacksonville, IL 62650
• There will be no fee for this test.  Any applicant who participates in the on-site physical test, but who does not pass, will be eliminated from the hiring process.

You should be aware that you are taking the physical ability test at your own risk.  Please check with a doctor if you have any concerns or may require accommodation.

• The test will include physical training, climbing ladders, and the dragging and lifting of heavy weight.
• The test is expected to last around 3 hours.
• All applicants participating in testing must wear appropriate exercise attire for indoor and outdoor events. Gym shoes and socks are recommended.
• Remember to bring your own water or bottle and a snack if you choose.
• The test will be conducted rain or shine. Only in the case of extreme weather will a test be delayed or cancelled. Cancellation of the physical test will be made at the discretion of the Jacksonville Fire Department.
