Job Description

This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt position that reports to the Dean of Business Services and Institutional Effectiveness and is located at the JWCC campus in Quincy, Illinois.  Position begins immediately.

 

John Wood Community College (JWCC) is seeking an experienced and results-oriented Manager of Auxiliary Operations to oversee and expand the College’s auxiliary services, including the Bookstore and Food Services. This role involves managing daily operations, developing strategies for revenue generation, and ensuring high-quality service delivery to students, faculty, and the community.  The Manager of Auxiliary Operations will serve as the JWCC Bookstore Manager and will have direct supervision of the Executive Chef and will aid in the retail operations for Food Services.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILIES

  • Oversee daily operations of auxiliary services, including the Bookstore and Food Services.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance revenue and increase operational efficiency.
  • Manage budgets and financial records for auxiliary services, tracking performance against revenue targets and expense budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with college policies and applicable regulations for all auxiliary operations.
  • Supervise and support staff within auxiliary services, providing training and fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Coordinate with vendors to negotiate contracts, manage inventory, and ensure optimal pricing and quality of products and services.
  • Monitor customer satisfaction through regular feedback and adjust services to meet the needs of students, faculty, and other stakeholders.
  • Promote auxiliary services through on-campus marketing initiatives and outreach to increase usage and visibility.
  • Manage, coordinate, and direct the operations of the Bookstore including training, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating Bookstore employees.
  • Prepare semester book listing information by coordinating with Department Chairs, Deans, and Faculty. Order and prepare all books and other course materials that will be sold in the Bookstore including electronic materials.  Order and direct the order of all merchandise and other goods sold in the Bookstore.
  • Manage Point of Sale system, tax payments, inventory reporting and audit schedules for the Bookstore and Food Services.
  • Supervise Executive Chef and provide support for Food Services functions at the College.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Hospitality, or a related field is required or relevant experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of management experience in auxiliary services, retail, hospitality, or a similar field.
  • Experience in an educational or public sector setting is a plus.
  • Proven experience with budgeting and inventory management is highly desirable.

 

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong financial and analytical skills, with experience managing budgets and forecasting.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Excellent customer service and people skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook); familiarity with point-of-sale or other retail software is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.
  • Ability to adapt quickly, troubleshoot issues, and make informed decisions.

 

Work Schedule:

  • Full-time position with a typical schedule of Monday-Thursday (8am – 5pm) and Friday (8am – 12pm).
