Job Description
This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt position that reports to the Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs and is located at the Quincy Campus in Quincy, Illinois with some travel across all JWCC locations and service district.
The Dean of Business, Allied Health, and Public Services provides vision, leadership, and direction for the Business, Allied Health, and Public Service academic programs. The Dean is responsible for promoting academic, administrative, and fiscal leadership across a multi-faceted area of Academic Affairs. The Dean supervises both full-time and part-time faculty under the purview of this position. Academic subjects supervised by this position include Accounting, Nursing, Surgical Technology, Medical Assisting, EMT, Business, Computer Science/ Information Technology/Graphic Design, Criminal Justice, Economics, Education/Early Childhood, Fire Science, Hospitality/Culinary Arts, Office Technology, and Sports Management. As such, the Dean is responsible for leading curriculum development, program assessment and evaluation, grant supervision, budget planning and monitoring, faculty recruitment, supervision, and evaluation.

KEY RESPONSIBILIES
- Provide direction and support to faculty in the development, revision and evaluation of departmental curriculum and programs, including the Program Review process.
- Provide supervision to a multidiscipline area of instruction; adhere to the collective bargaining agreement and conduct annual faculty/staff evaluations.
- Prepare, in collaboration with department chairs and directors, a schedule of course offerings; monitor faculty loads; supervise instructional programs; facilitate institutional program and course assessment.
- Serve on various on-campus, advisory, community and state-wide committees.
- Support faculty and staff through open communication and professional development.
- Collaborate with faculty on curriculum development ensuring that standards are maintained for course objectives, course content, examinations, and grading.
- Seek, apply, and manage grants that fall under the supervision of the Business, Allied Health, and Public Service programs where applicable.
- Participate in college-wide efforts to improve access and accessibility of programs for all students and stakeholders.
- Work with faculty to resolve student complaints at the lowest level possible.
- Collaborate with faculty, the Manager of Curriculum and Assessment, and the Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs to ensure full compliance with an effective and scaled faculty-wide assessment process.
- Collaborate with the Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs, faculty, and other areas of leadership to ensure compliance of program needs that meet the standards set by the College’s accrediting bodies and other regulatory agencies.
- Provide direction on and collaborate with the Manager of Curriculum and Assessment to ensure compliance with standards and guidelines set forth by the Illinois Articulation Initiative (IAI) and the Illinois Community College Board.
- Lead department chair meetings and promote communication across all levels of leadership.
- Collaborate with other areas of the College to support and foster growth of concurrent enrollment/dual credit programming.
- Build relationships with high school partners to increase transfer opportunities for students.
- Review and coordinate the use of instructional resources in collaboration with other academic deans.
- Collaborate with the Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs to grow articulations with four-year transfer institutions to reduce barriers to student success and completion.
- Collaborate with the Director of Pathways to ensure that all academic programs have clearly defined and up-to-date pathways (degree maps) that serve and promote student success.
- Participate actively in the work of the college including participation in student on-boarding events, campus-wide events, professional development/ training, convocation, commencement, and various other programmatic events.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Master’s degree required.
Experience:
- Minimum of three years of full-time teaching experience preferred.
Skills & Competencies:
- A commitment to and understanding of the mission of community college education both in the occupations and liberal arts.
- Budget experience that encompasses the management of resources and the reconciliation of competing needs.
- Demonstrated project planning and management, time management, and priority setting skills.
- Ability to work successfully in a high stress environment, handling multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Demonstrated history of on-time delivery of projects; project coordination; and anticipation of issues.
- Good interpersonal skills, including listening, with demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups of people.
- Must have the ability to work as a team member, foster a cooperative work environment, and maintain effective relationships.
Working Conditions:
- Primarily office-based with occasional travel for recruitment events and community outreach.
- Some evenings will be required to support students and faculty in evening classes and other campus-wide events. Some weekends may be required to support special events.
- Work in well-lit, ventilated office spaces, as well as across campus.
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, lift, and move intermittently throughout the workday.
- Subject to frequent interruptions and interaction with students, faculty, staff, and the public.
- Flexibility to work beyond regular hours, including weekends and holidays, when necessary.
- Participation in ongoing professional development to stay informed about trends in the field.
- Ability to manage the mental and emotional demands of the role.
Work Schedule:
- Full-time position with a typical schedule of Monday-Thursday (8am – 5pm) and Friday (8am – 12pm).
SALARY:
- This is an exempt position with an estimated annual salary of $78,000.00 – $95,000.00.
