Job Description
This is a full-time, nine-month, tenure track, bargaining unit position reporting to the Director of Allied Health and Emergency Services at JWCC’s Quincy, IL campus and other locations across the JWCC district. The position begins Fall semester 2025.
John Wood Community College is seeking a dedicated and experienced Instructor of Nursing to join our faculty. This full-time, tenure-track position plays a critical role in preparing students for careers in nursing by providing high-quality instruction and hands-on clinical experiences. The Instructor for Nursing will primarily teach in the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program, which prepares students to become professional, caring, and competent nurses. The curriculum is career-oriented and approved by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
Teaching responsibilities encompass classroom, skills lab, and clinical settings, including evaluating student progress towards meeting learning outcomes. The role also involves engagement in activities, such as committee membership, curriculum review, assessment, accreditation, and participation in systematic program evaluation and planning.
KEY RESPONSIBILIES
- Develop and deliver engaging lectures, labs, and clinical instruction in accordance with program curriculum and accreditation standards.
- Supervise and evaluate students in clinical settings to ensure competency in nursing skills and patient care.
- Utilize innovative teaching methodologies to enhance student learning, including simulation and technology-based instruction.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and provide constructive feedback.
- Participate in curriculum development, assessment, and continuous program improvement efforts.
- Engage in departmental meetings, college committees, and professional development activities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) required.
- Current, unencumbered Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license or eligibility for licensure in Illinois and prior to the start of the Fall Semester.
- Minimum of three years of clinical nursing experience required; prior teaching experience preferred.
Skills and Competencies:
- Excellent leadership, time management, and collaboration skills.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to student success and excellence in nursing education.
- Experience in an educational or public sector setting is a plus.
Work Schedule:
- A typical work schedule for a full-time faculty member at John Wood Community College includes a combination of teaching, office hours, and service to the college. While specific schedules may vary by department and course load.
- The position may require additional duties outside normal work hours and contracted workdays including travel to and from educational and healthcare facilities.
SALARY:
- This is an exempt position with an estimated base salary range of $31,921.00 – $99,844.00. Salary is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and is commensurate with education and experience.
- John Wood Community College recognizes the valuable contributions of faculty members who take on additional responsibilities beyond their primary teaching and service obligations. In certain cases, faculty may be eligible for stipends to compensate for extra work that aligns with institutional priorities and needs.
