Job Description

Join our dedicated team with The Quincy Salvation Army Emergency Shelter, where we provide crucial support and safe haven to those in need. Our emergency shelter is dedicated to offering a welcoming and secure environment for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. While social work experience is helpful, it is not required. We are seeking compassionate Shelter Monitors to help us maintain our high standards of care and service. We invite those who possess empathy, kindness, and a genuine desire to make a positive impact in the lives of those in need.
Rate of Pay: $16.00 per hour with a $1.00 per hour overnight shift differential.
Shifts:  Seeking individuals for Mornings, Evenings, and Overnights.
Status: Immediate need for Full-time, working 40 hours/week.
Additional need for Part-time, working up to 19 hours/week.

Responsibilities:
  • Offer support and guidance, addressing clients’ needs and concerns promptly and with empathy.
  • Assist with the intake and discharge processes, including completing necessary paperwork and welcoming individuals into the shelter.
  • Regularly clean and sanitize the office, bathrooms, and kitchen to uphold hygiene standards in maintaining a clean and organized facility.
  • Assist in preparing, serving, and cleaning up after meals and snacks.
  • Assist with additional tasks as required to ensure the efficient operation of the Shelter.
  • Collaborate with team members to address the immediate needs of individuals, such as food, clothing, and hygiene products.
  • Promote and uphold a culture of respect, dignity, and inclusivity within the shelter community.
  • Collaborate with local service providers to connect individuals with necessary resources, such as healthcare, employment, and housing opportunities.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions to stay informed and improve service delivery.
     
What are We Looking For?
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in social work or a related field is helpful but not required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish trust with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Compassionate and nonjudgmental attitude towards individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • Ability to handle challenging situations with empathy, patience, and composure.
  • Basic computer skills to assist with data entry and record keeping.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

The Quincy Area Command serves Adams, Pike and Brown counties in Illinois and Marion, Ralls, Lewis, Shelby and Monroe counties in Missouri as well as transients who have come to our community and find themselves in a homeless situation. It is the goal of our program to equip our residents with the knowledge and life skills development needed to find employment and suitable, affordable housing that they might become self-sufficient individuals.
The Emergency Shelter can accommodate up to 20 people with rooms dedicated to single men and women as well as families. The building also includes our Family Services programs and Food Pantry/Breadline.
