Job Description

HOURS:  20-24 hours per week – Monday through Friday – 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Adams County Probation Department strives to fulfill our vision of Protecting Our Community by Changing Lives. Our department of 19 Probation Officers and 3 support staff serve the citizens of Adams County and the Judiciary by being Agents of Change and providing evidence-based services and support to the clients assigned to our department.

The Probation Assistant position is responsible for collecting urine samples, from male clients, for drug testing. Conducts PBT and DNA swabs. Maintains and completes related paperwork and/or computer entries. Stocks drug testing supplies and other duties as assigned.  This position is supported by a supervisor and chief probation officer. The objective of this position is to support the Adams County Probation Department and Probation Officers as needed and provide support to the drug testing program.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Requires interpersonal skills necessary to establish working relationships with a wide array of diverse individuals.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Availability to work a variable schedule.
  • Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug test.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collect direct observed urine specimens for drug testing from male clients. Maintain proper chain of custody. Conduct PBT’s and collect/process DNA swabs.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date paperwork and/or computer entries regarding test results. May be required to provide testimony in court.
  • Keep drug testing restroom stocked with supplies.
  • Keep drug testing storage room organized. Stock supplies as needed; inform Administrative Probation Officer if supplies need to be ordered.
  • Send test samples for confirmation testing as directed.
  • Dispose of specimens as directed.
  • Treat all co-workers and clients with dignity, respect and in a professional manner. Maintain confidentiality.
  • Maintain a productive working relationship with all agencies, individuals and governmental units with whom the department interacts.
