This is a temporary, part-time position that reports to the Head Softball Coach and Director of Athletics and is located on JWCC’s main campus in Quincy, Illinois. Position will begin immediately and end in May 2025.
JOB DESCRIPTION
John Wood Community College is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to serve as a Part-Time Assistant Softball Coach. This position will support the head coach in all aspects of the softball program, including recruitment, player development, and team management, while fostering a positive and inclusive environment for student-athletes.
KEY RESPONSIBILIES
- Assist in planning and conducting practices, conditioning sessions, and game strategies.
- Support the recruitment of student-athletes who align with the college’s values and academic standards.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to student-athletes to promote academic and athletic success.
- Ensure compliance with NJCAA rules, regulations, and college policies.
- Collaborate with the head coach on scheduling, travel arrangements, and equipment management.
- Assist with in-season/off-season training.
- Assist with budget management, purchasing, summer campus, and fundraising as needed.
- Represent the college and softball program positively in the community.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience:
- Previous experience playing or coaching softball at the high school, college, or club level.
- Strong understanding of softball fundamentals, strategies, and techniques.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required.
- Commitment to the academic and personal development of student-athletes.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
Working Conditions:
- The Assistant Softball Coach will work in a combination of indoor and outdoor environments, including office settings, softball fields, and gymnasiums.
- The role involves frequent standing, walking, running, and other physical activities related to coaching and training athletes.
- Must be able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Evening and weekend hours are required to accommodate practices, games, and travel for competitions.
- Travel is required for away games and recruiting activities, which may include overnight stays.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions during outdoor practices and games.
- The position requires effective communication and interaction with student-athletes, coaching staff, and the public.
Work Schedule:
- Part-time, season position with a varying schedule.
