Job Description

This is an Associate Faculty position in the Electrical Technology Program at JWCC Workforce Development Center in Quincy, Illinois.  Associate Faculty positions are non-tenure track faculty serving in a temporary or auxiliary capacity to teach specific courses on a course-by-course basis.  Position begins Fall Semester 2025.

 

John Wood Community College is seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Associate Faculty – Electrical Technology instructor to teach courses within the Electrical Technology program. This position is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in electrical principles, safety, wiring, troubleshooting, and other related topics to prepare students for careers in the electrical trade.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILIES

  • Teach assigned Electrical Technology courses, ensuring student engagement and success.
  • Develop and deliver hands-on, competency-based instruction in alignment with industry standards and program curriculum.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching methods, including lectures, labs, demonstrations, and online learning tools.
  • Assess student learning outcomes and provide timely feedback on performance.
  • Maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment that supports student growth and development.
  • Stay current with industry trends, certifications, and best practices to enhance instructional quality.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and industry partners to support student success and workforce readiness.
  • Identify student learning styles and tailor teaching styles accordingly.
  • Maintain accurate student attendance and grade records.
  • Advise students on attendance, grades, discipline issues, and school policies.
  • Issue, inspect, repair, and teach proper handling of classroom tools.
  • Ensure ethical testing environments.
  • Examples of courses that could be taught are Blueprint Reading for Electricians, Introduction to National Electrical Code, and Residential, Commercial and Industrial Electricity.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Associate degree in Electrical Technology, Industrial Technology, or related field, and five (5) years industry related work experience preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED and seven (7) years industry related work experience.
  • A City of Quincy Illinois Master Electrician Certificate preferred.

 

Experience:

  • Five to Seven years of industry related work experience preferred.
  • Teaching experience preferred but not required.

 

Skills and Competencies:

  • Knowledge of current electrical codes, safety regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Strong communication and instructional skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse student populations and support various learning styles.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to create an inclusive and engaging learning environment that fosters student success.
  • Proficiency in educational technology and online learning management systems (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas).

 

WORK SCHEDULE:

  • Courses are normally offered between the hours of 5:30pm – 9:45pm, one night per week.

 

SALARY:

  • This position has an estimated salary range of $523.00 – $690.00 per load hour.
  • Salary within the estimated range is determined by education and experience.
