Forty-Seventh Annual JWCC Commencement Ceremony Set for May 13
John Wood Community College will hold its forty-seventh annual commencement ceremony on Friday, May 13, at 6:00 p.m. in the Student Activity Center on the Quincy Campus at 48th and Harrison.
JWCC will confer 359 associate degrees and 132 certificates. Michael Elbe, JWCC president, will confer degrees and certificates and Ms. Diane Ary, chair of the JWCC Board of Trustees, will accept candidates as graduates.
Ms. Justine Rae Obert & Ms. Zoey Daniele Obert, of Liberty, will deliver the invocation. Justine and Zoey are members of the graduating class. They both earned Nursing Assistant Certificates with Excellence and Associate in Arts Degrees with Highest Honors in December 2021. Justine and Zoey will be transferring to St. John’s College of Nursing in the fall to pursue their Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degrees.
Mr. Arturo Miguel Melendez, of Quincy, will deliver the student address. He served our country for 6 years in the Army National Guard, is a member of the graduating class, and will be earning a Practical Nursing Certificate. Arturo plans to continue his education with JWCC in the fall to pursue his Associate in Applied Science in Nursing Degree.
Ms. Lauren Elaine Werries, of Quincy, will deliver the closing remarks. She is a member of the graduating class, was a 2021-2022 Presidential Scholar, the 2021-2022 Phi Theta Kappa Chapter President, a member of the Student Government Association, heavily involved in Student Life events, a student worker for the Community Based Outreach Department, and volunteered to assist with child-care during Student Success Nights. Lauren will be earning an Associate in Arts Degree with Highest Honors. She will be transferring to Concordia University in Wisconsin in the fall to pursue a Business Management Degree.
Based on the recommendation of the JWCC President, the Board of Trustees will confer the title of Professor Emeritus to Norman Rodriguez and Gary Shupe to honor their long-standing superior service to the College, its students, and community.
Dr. Steven Soebbing, JWCC instructor of music and theatre, will play processional and recessional selections and lead JWCC music students in performing the National Anthem.
