John Wood Community College (JWCC) proudly celebrated its students and staff in the Surgical Technology Program during National Surgical Tech Week, observed from September 16-20, 2024. The week highlighted the essential role Certified Surgical Technologists play in healthcare and recognized the dedication of students working toward becoming vital members of surgical teams.

Certified Surgical Technologists (CSTs) are integral allied health professionals, supporting surgical care through precise teamwork and specialized skills. These professionals ensure operating rooms are safe, equipment functions correctly, and procedures are conducted in an environment that prioritizes patient safety. Their expertise facilitates both invasive and non-invasive surgeries, ensuring the highest standard of care for patients.

At JWCC, Surgical Technology students undergo rigorous training that combines theory with practical applications. They study the principles of asepsis and sterile techniques, learning to maintain sterile environments crucial for surgery. In addition to mastering human anatomy and surgical procedures, students are taught to handle surgical instruments and equipment, supporting physicians in performing successful operations.
