John Wood Community College Launches Animal Care Assistant and IT Help Desk Programs this Fall
John Wood Community College (JWCC) will offer two new certificate programs for the Fall 2024 semester: Animal Care Assistant and IT Help Desk. These programs are designed to equip students with the skills needed to enter rapidly growing job markets, providing both technical knowledge and hands-on experience.
The Animal Care Assistant program is tailored for individuals interested in beginning a career in the veterinary field or related animal care professions. This certificate program will cover essential topics such as animal anatomy, behavior, and welfare, as well as practical skills in handling, feeding, and basic medical care.
The Animal Care Veterinary Assistant Certificate is designed to provide students with techniques, best practices, and technologies needed to be successful in the animal care industry. Practices in large and small, farm and non-farm animals will be addressed. Multiple animal care and veterinary resources including those at John Wood Community College, Animal Science Complex, and University of Illinois Orr Beef Research Center will be used to provide practical hands-on lab experiences for students. Students will gain real-world experience through internships and partnerships with local veterinary clinics and animal care facilities.
The IT Help Desk Certificate is designed for those looking to start a career in information technology, specifically in technical support roles. The curriculum includes foundational courses in computer hardware, software, networking, and customer service skills. Students will learn to troubleshoot and resolve common IT issues, preparing them for entry-level positions in various industries that require technical support expertise.
Both programs reflect JWCC’s commitment to providing education that meets the needs of the local job market and prepares students for immediate employment opportunities. By offering these new programs, JWCC continues to expand its diverse range of educational options, catering to the interests and career goals of its student body.
Enrollment for these programs is now open and courses are offered in both fall and spring semesters.
