Quincy, IL – John Wood Community College is proud to announce the Grand Opening of the Blazer Café, a student-driven initiative that has blossomed into a symbol of community collaboration and hands-on learning. The event will take place on Tuesday, March 18, from 9:30 AM to 10:00 AM in the JWCC Library.
The Blazer Café began as an inspired idea following a visit to Lewis and Clark Community College in 2023, where JWCC’s College for Life (CFL) program found a mentorship connection. With the vision of creating an inclusive space for students to gain entrepreneurial experience while serving the campus community, the café’s journey was set into motion. Thanks to generous support from local partners, including Electric Fountain Brewing, JW Gardner Foundation, and JWCC Foundation, this student-led venture has thrived.
Since its soft launch in September 2024, the Blazer Café has successfully raised over $2,500 in donations, which directly supports CFL scholarships. The café operates on a donation-based model, ensuring that all students—regardless of financial means—can enjoy handcrafted beverages while fostering a welcoming atmosphere on campus.
Grand Opening Agenda:
Members of the media and the JWCC community are invited to attend and celebrate this exciting milestone. The event will provide an opportunity to meet the students behind the Blazer Café, learn more about its mission, and experience firsthand how collaboration and creativity can drive meaningful change.
