JWCC Creates New Scholarship Competition to Motivate Adult Students
John Wood Community College is always looking for new ways to motivate adults to begin or complete college. A new “Motiv8” Adult Scholarship competition is part of that effort to encourage adults to find their path to the classroom during the 2021-22 academic year. The lucky recipient may receive full in-district tuition based on set guidelines. The application is online and open now through June 30 at 11:50 p.m. CST. Applicants must be available for an in-person meet-and-greet on campus July 8. The winner will be announced on July 14.
JWCC launched the Motiv8 Scholarship to fill a gap for adults that don’t necessarily qualify for traditional student financial aid due to working full time or other circumstances. Adult students face a unique set of circumstances and barriers. There is often a great need for these students financially and the Motiv8 Scholarship serves to lessen the burden.
The name Motiv8 stems from JWCC’s adult student support group founded and coordinated by JWCC Adult Student and Admissions Advisor Melissa Hess. The group meets eight times a year to provide peer support and study times for adult students.
A recent Motiv8 member commented, “Motiv8 has helped me develop friendships, share common struggles, and gain advice and motivation from other adults. The goal of the group is to provide an open forum for adult students to come together, encourage one another and celebrate successes.”
