JWCC Heath Center Art Gallery Hosts Art Show by Jaycie Womack Spake

The John Wood Community College Heath Center Art Gallery is hosting work by artist Jaycie Womack Spake, known as JcWoahmack Art. The art show is open now and free to the public.  It runs until Friday, March 24.

Womack-Spake attended JWCC and continued her education at The Kansas City Art Institute, where she received her bachelor’s degree in illustration.

She is the Manager at Arts Quincy for the office’s Membership and Programs and freelances as an illustrator and muralist. You may recognize some of her murals at Seoul 2 Soul, Quincy Brewery and the new Ben Bumbry mural at the Jackson-Lincoln Swimming Complex. She describes her mural work as some of her most significant accomplishments and hopes to add more to her resume.

“My work is heavily inspired by Reportage Illustration, which is the practice of drawing on location and capturing a moment in time, much like a journalist. There is a big element of storytelling in all of my pieces,” she said. “I love creating things based on my own experiences, places I’ve been, people I love and admire and the memories I’ve stored in my heart. I want people to see that my work goes further than what you see on the surface. There’s always more to the story.”

The exhibit brings a wide variety of work with mediums including pen and ink, paint and collage, accompanied by lots of textures, patterns and typography. Follow her on Facebook and Instagram.
