To provide greater access to help train future medical office workers needed by regional healthcare providers, John Wood Community College has a new online medical office certificate that can be completed in one year or less.
“Due to Blessing Health System’s commitment to making access to healthcare more convenient, we aggressively recruit new providers leading to a constant need for people who have medical office skills to support our providers,” said Tena Awerkamp, Blessing Physician Services director of primary care services. “John Wood’s certificate has great courses that will be a definite benefit for applicants looking for receptionist, scheduling or patient access representative positions.”
JWCC’s online Medical Office certificate includes the following six courses: Customer Service, Introduction to Medical Office, Medical Terminology, Human Relations in the Workplace, Keyboarding and a related elective course. Students may start the certificate this spring semester which begins January 13.
“Many of our students don’t have time to meet in person, but want to find a way to work full-time and pursue courses that can get them into the healthcare industry,” Lisa Atwell, JWCC assistant professor of office technology shared.
“The online option gives them flexibility and access to the education they need to give them a leg up on other candidates for medical office positions.”
The Medical Office Certificate is the latest addition to JWCC’s 14 online degree and certificate offerings, which were recently ranked as the best among Illinois community colleges by SR education group.
