John Wood Community College (JWCC) Political Science Professor Steve Belko and a group of dedicated students will lend their support at the Adams County Bicentennial event held at the Golden Branch Public Library on September 25 from 6-7:30 p.m.. The event, part of a series aimed at collecting stories, photos, and memorabilia for the Adams County Bicentennial Book, saw residents from the region contribute personal materials to help preserve the county’s rich history.
Professor Belko and his students will assist residents in sharing their stories and provide support in collecting and documenting the historical content. The Bicentennial Book, set for release in late 2025, will commemorate the 200-year history of Adams County, featuring narratives, photographs, and illustrations that span from its founding in 1825 to present day.
“This project is a great opportunity for our students to actively participate in a historic initiative, while also learning the importance of community engagement and preserving local heritage,” said Professor Belko. “We’re honored to help ensure that the stories of Adams County’s residents are captured and shared for future generations.”
The Bicentennial Book Committee, which includes local librarians, historians, and community leaders, will continue to collect materials at events across the county, with upcoming events scheduled for Mendon, Clayton, and Camp Point.
