Courses led by respected non-profit leaders Clarice Hetzler and Pam Shaffer
John Wood Community College Business and Industry Training has partnered with the Tracy Family Foundation and the Community Foundation to offer a Nonprofit Board Member Development course. Nonprofits often indicate a lack of available Board prospects, when attempting to identify new Board members and recruit a diverse Board.
The Board Member Development Course addresses the need within our community for knowledgeable and engaged nonprofit board members. This course helps cultivate the skills and characteristics needed to become an effective leader at work and in the community. Coming to understand the connection and need for balance between knowledge and human interest in things outside of self is where growth and development of a true leader begins. This interactive in-person course allows emerging leaders to network with their peers and learn from each other throughout the course. Local nonprofit organizations are featured allowing participants the opportunity to connect to a mission that speaks to them, and in return allow their specific expertise to be utilized for a greater good.
The four-part Board Training program is free of charge to participants. A minimum of fifteen attendees is required per class. Each class session is two and a half hours long and will include a presentation of the topic, discussion, and homework relating to each participant’s organization. The course is led by Clairice Hetzler and Pam Shaffer, both of whom are long-time Nonprofit Executives. Course sessions are held at the John Wood Community College Workforce Development Center, 2710 North 42nd St, Quincy. The course is scheduled for four Fridays, October 20 – November 10, from 9 to 11:30am.
